Where it comes from
Umar (RA) acquired some land in Khaybar, and he came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking advice about it. He said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have acquired land in Khaybar, and I have never acquired wealth more valuable to me than it. What do you command me concerning it?”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “If you wish, keep the property itself and give its produce in charity.”
So Umar (RA) made it an endowment: it was not to be sold, given away, or inherited. Its fruits were to be given to the poor, relatives, slaves, travellers and guests.
This hadith, in Bukhari and Muslim, is where the idea of waqf comes from. It is why MSS builds charity projects that keep helping people for years. MSS Waqf comes in addition to our usual one-off collections.
Existing projects
One project at a time, alongside the sponsorship. The last card is a hope, and it says so.
Every year MSS sponsors 10 orphaned children in Gaza through Islamic Relief Norge. The money covers what they need day to day, and we have promised to support each child until they turn 18.

The first MSS Waqf project: a well with an automatic pump in Bondeni, Kilifi County, Kenya, built with Kheir Group. It gives the village clean water every day, and in shaa Allah it will for years.
MSS Waqf has just started. With help from members and donors we hope to take on bigger projects: more wells, education, health care, and one day perhaps an orphanage.
Not a campaign yet, so nothing to give to
From decision to done
The board picks a project, announces it on Instagram and starts collecting. We post an update each time we pass a milestone.
When we reach the goal, a trusted partner on the ground carries the project out. We check that it is done as planned.
During and after the work, the partner sends photos and updates. We share them on Instagram, so donors can see where their money went.

One at a time
MSS is run by students, so we take on one Waqf project at a time, next to the orphan sponsorship. That way we can keep it open and do it properly.
