The Inner Secrets of Worship is an English translation of a section of Imam Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi's classical work on the inward dimensions of Islamic worship. Rather than focusing on the outward rulings of acts of worship, the book explores their spiritual purposes and the sincerity, humility, and God-consciousness that should accompany them. Chapters cover knowledge, purification, prayer, zakat, fasting, hajj, recitation of the Qur'an, remembrance and supplication, and voluntary night prayer. It is aimed at readers who already know the basic rulings of worship and want to deepen the spiritual meaning behind their practice, and is commonly used alongside the companion volume The Refinement of Character.
