Purification of the Heart and Soul

Purification of the Heart and Soul is Abdul Ali Hamid's English translation of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah's classical treatise al-Da' wa'l-Dawa (The Disease and the Cure). This deluxe edition reproduces the same translation in an upgraded print presentation. The book examines the spiritual diseases that afflict the heart, such as heedlessness, following desires, and attachment to sin, and sets out the Qur'anic and prophetic remedies for them, including repentance, remembrance of Allah, patience, and gratitude. Ibn Qayyim draws heavily on Qur'anic verses and hadith to argue that sin causes real harm to the heart in the same way disease harms the body.
