Ta-Ha's abridged English translation of 'Uddat al-Sabirin wa Dhakhirat al-Shakirin, in which Ibn al-Qayyim treats sabr and shukr as a pair and shows how each is carried into an ordinary life. Patience is taken in its kinds, in obedience, against desire and under affliction, and set against the gratitude that answers it, with the argument drawn throughout from Qur'anic verses, prophetic teaching and the sayings of the early generations. The author was a student of Ibn Taymiyyah and wrote the original more than six centuries ago, and the publisher's own note is that his words read as more relevant now than then. The translator, Nasiruddin al-Khattab, keeps the practical register that makes the work usable rather than only admired. Eighty pages in paperback.
