Al-Maktabah is a student-led Islamic library by Muslimsk Studentsamfunn (MSS) at the University of Oslo. We make authentic Islamic books freely available to students who want to learn but face financial or access barriers.
Good Islamic books are expensive. Students have limited budgets. We serve as an intermediary sourcing books from Darussalam Publications and making them available to our members at no cost. The library grows based on what the community actually wants to read, driven by waitlist data and book recommendations.

Join the waitlist on the book's page. When it's returned, the first person in line gets notified by email and has 24 hours to confirm. If they don't respond, it goes to the next person.
Waitlists matter — they tell us which books to restock and how many copies to buy. Joining a waitlist isn't just queuing; it's voting for the library's future.

What is Al-Maktabah?
Al-Maktabah is MSS’s free book library for Islamic books. All books are from Darussalam Publications and can be borrowed completely free by MSS members.
Who can borrow books?
All MSS members. Membership costs 100 NOK (one-time fee).
How do I borrow a book?
Find the book in the catalog, add it to your cart, and complete the order (0 NOK). You will receive a confirmation email with the pickup time and return deadline.
When and where do I pick up/return books?
Pickup: AFTER Jumuʿah prayer on Friday at the Mosalla.
Return: Place the book back on the bookshelf BEFORE Jumuʿah prayer, no later than the return deadline.
How long can I borrow a book?
14 days from pickup. You will receive an email reminder two days before the deadline.
Can I borrow multiple books at the same time?
No, only one book at a time. Return the book before ordering a new one.
What if the book I want is already borrowed?
Join the waiting list on the book’s page. You will automatically receive an email when the book becomes available. Reply “YES” to confirm — you don’t need to order again.
What happens if I don’t return the book on time?
You will receive a reminder, followed by a late notice. Repeated delays or loss/damage may result in a 200 NOK replacement fee.
Does it cost anything?
No. Borrowing is free. Loss or damage of books costs 200 NOK.
How can I support Al-Maktabah?
Donate via Vipps 591553 (150 NOK = 1 new book), recommend books we should acquire, or give us feedback.
